Bodymind December Float Notes

Imagine a world where a doctors prescribe float therapy to help reduce anxiety and pain, rather than Xanax or OxyContin….

R.E.S.T.

As people who float, we know the tremendous effect floating (“Reduced Environmental Stimulation Therapy”) has on the day of our float and, with practice, how that effect lingers in the days that follow. But has anyone taken a hard, scientific look at the effects of floating?

If you’ve been following this newsletter then you’ve seen a study here or there showing effects like lowered cortisol levels, blood pressure, stress, etc. including studies by the National Institute of Health.

For example, this piece of recent NIH research concludes:

Stress, depression, anxiety, and worst pain were significantly decreased whereas optimism and sleep quality significantly increased for the flotation-REST group. No significant results for the control group were seen. There was also a significant correlation between mindfulness in daily life and degree of altered states of consciousness during the relaxation in the flotation tank.

In contrast to floating, all prescription drugs come with some level of risk. Last year alone, almost 300 people died every day from an overdose, and the most commonly overdosed drugs are in the opioid or benzo families.

Hope Floats

We’re proud of the health benefits that float-research has revealed, but we also think it’s important that the medical profession take the next step.

What would that look like? We envision a time when doctors and medical professionals can actually prescribe floating for anxiety and specific bodily pains!

To this end, your very own Bodymind Float Center is participating in a fundraising drive for The Float Research Collective.

The Float Research Collective is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that aims to:

1. Establish Floatation-REST as an accepted treatment that can be reimbursed by insurance providers and prescribed by doctors and healthcare professionals.

2. Raise funds for the continuation of clinical float research including:

a) the creation of a cloud-based platform that will enable the collection of publishable data from recreational float centers.

b) the construction of a dedicated Float Clinic to conduct clinical trials in patient populations.

c) the launch of a pilot grant fund to help facilitate float research at universities and hospitals.

3. Serve as an educational resource for the float industry and an essential nexus for the dissemination of Floatation-REST across the world.

Referrals!

If you’ve called while I’m working the big white desk, then you know that I’m old and confused by all this new technology, and that includes our new Floathelm scheduling system.

But even I must admit, it has made life much easier for both guests and staffs.

Floathelm tracks appointments and credits in one convenient location, and because of that, it gives us the power to give away more free floats through a new referral program!

How to get free floats through referrals:

1) Log into your Bodymind account. You will see a blue button that says “Refer friends for free floatation therapies.”

2) Click that button and get your personal discount code.

3) Share that code with your friends. When they book, they will use that code, and you will get credit automatically for that referral…and your friends will receive a 10% discount on their floats!

- For regular guests, every 8 referrals will automatically give you a credit for a free float.

- For members, your free float comes after just 5 referrals!

Float Foundations

As announced in the May newsletter, Bodymind has launched a program for new floaters—and casual floaters who aren’t yet members—to dive deeper into their floating practice.

Congratulations to the floaters who have completed their first three floats! We are sincerely thrilled to have you here, and grateful to those who have made their practice more regular through a membership!

We at Bodymind Syracuse believe that the more you float, the more you get out of floating. In support of this practice, we encourage you to take advantage of our “Float Foundations Starter Bundle.”
